Knowles Homes is a North Shore building company that specialises in building fine homes at the higher end of the market.

With over twenty years in the trade, Managing Director Kevin Knowles has built the business and his reputation with a philosophy of focusing on getting the detail right first time and satisfying the clients’ changing needs. Kevin is a Registered Master Builder, an indication of the professional approach to his business and the industry. A Registered Master Builder is regularly assessed for financial viability and workmanship and offers the Master Build Guarantee for three or five years on residential work.

Kevin Knowles personally manages all stages of every project undertaken by his company. In order to do this, he limits the projects on the go at any one time to just two or three. “My secret is to get every stage of a project absolutely right before pushing on with the next,” explains Kevin. “From experience, I know that if the preparation work is done correctly, and you are always thinking ahead, then the final detail will be easily achieved.”

Being honest and up-front with clients is another characteristic of the Knowles Homes approach. “I’m always upfront about what things are going to cost or if something is going wrong with a project” says Kevin. “And if I think a client’s idea is not the best, I say so.”

Kevin enjoys the creativity of the house building process. “I get a great buzz out of seeing the finished product, especially if it’s an architecturally interesting house, and standing back and saying ‘I did that!’ And there’s an enormous satisfaction from seeing happy clients,” he says.

Kevin Knowles has firm views on the building industry. “Today there are too many builders that are cost driven at the expense of quality,” he says. “The building industry in New Zealand will always have problems if it is solely driven by price. The cheapest quote for a tender is the cheapest because it has not allowed attention to detail. This inevitable leads to lower quality.”
